Yin Yoga is coming to Mixin Mingle!

In Yin Yoga (think Yin vs. Yang), you will hold poses for several minutes at a time to  stretch the connective tissue around your joints. Thai Yoga & Bodywork Workshop Coming to Mixin Mingle!

Mixin Mingle (http://www.mixinmingle.com/) is hosting a Thai Yoga and Bodywork workshop.

In this workshop you and a partner will support each through a simple sequence of postures focused on breathing and gentle stretching. We will learn a basic sequence of techniques from the Ancient Art of Traditional Thai Massage, which uses palm pressure, rhythmic rocking, and passive stretching, to relax and restore balance to the body. Called "Lazy Person's Yoga" in Thailand, Thai Bodywork incorporates all the benefits of a yoga practice, with a therapeutic massage treatment.

As a natural extension of the Buddhist practice of Metta, meaning compassion or lovingkindness, through this light-hearted practice we learn to be present with each other. Throughout the give and take of partner work, we take time to listen quietly, tuning into our partner as we give the compassion and healing touch that we ourselves would like to receive.

You can bring a friend or partner with you, or just bring yourself, and learn these simple techniques you can share with anyone in your life. There is absolutely no experience necessary!
Yoga mats will be supplied, but bring a blanket for extra cushioning.

About the instructor:
Liz Leffert has been an avid student of yoga since 2003. Her interest in natural therapies led her to a career as a Registered Yoga Instructor and Licensed Massage therapist. She has studied various western massage modalities, but from her first exposure to Thai Massage, she knew that is what she wanted to do. Most of her training has come from Chuck Duff, at the Thai Bodywork School in Evanston, and last year she realized her dream of visiting and studying in Thailand. With the grace of her many teachers (including her clients!), her love and appreciation of the healing ability of Thai Massage just keeps growing.

Poetry Slam with Marc Smith

The poetry slam was actually a lot of fun.  Marc Smith began the evening with a performance...about a subway, and then showed participants how to perform using a variety of techniques.  We went around the room practicing saying things with different volumes, speeds and more.  This was the kind of night where you could laugh, let loose, express yourself and have fun.  A bunch of students from McHenry County College came as a group and we also had students from Marian and people from the community as well.  Everyone who knew Marc Smith knew we would be in for a treat.  Marc had us write our own poems by observing what we were seeing take place in the room.  It was a very creative way to write.  After that, people performed their poems several different ways with Marc's guidance.  The evening concluded with a poetry slam contest.  The winner received $15!

Pilates Boxing Class Offered in Woodstock, IL

Mixin Mingle (http://www.mixinmingle.com/) will offer a Pilates Boxing class with Stephanie Vedder on Wed 9/14/11 at 7PM.  We wanted to offer Pilates Boxing in Woodstock, IL and McHenry County, IL after reading about a new group fitness class called Piloxing.  The instructor, Stephanie Vedder, a 15 year veteran in the fitness industry, has combined Pilates moves with Cardio Kickboxing moves to create this tough and toning workout.  The first time we tried it was such a success that we wanted to offer it again.  Call 815-308-5170 for more information.

Infant Massage Class Off to a Great Start!

Calling all interested in Infant/Baby Massage in McHenry County and Woodstock, IL!

Mixin Mingle (http://www.mixinmingle.com/) hosted its first infant and baby massage class today 8/29 at 10AM in Woodstock, IL.  This fun class was led by Karen Czarny, LMT.  Karen is a licensed massage therapist with Options 4 Health and she is a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils.

Karen taught participants how to do a full massage on their infant. In 15-20 minutes you can practice the massage strokes that will soothe and relax a child and relieve constipation and gas.

Tie-Dye Party Fun!

Mixin Mingle (http://www.mixinmingle.com/) hosted a Tie-Dye Party on Sat August 27th 2011 at 3PM with the Tie-Dye Guys--Mike DeSerto and Dustin Looney of Marengo’s MaD Discs and Dyes.  They set-up a dye station supplied the t-shirts.  Some people even brought in their own garments to dye.

Nate Grindeland, owner of Mixin Mingle wanted a shirt that helped show a slimming figure.  After losing 50 lbs over the past two years with nutrition and exercise, the hourglass figure pattern was a delight to try. 

These shirts were made by customer Sue R. and her daughter.  This class was in fact, Sue's idea.  We love customer suggestions for classes and like trying new things.  Tie-Dye is so Woodstock anyways, so it couldn't hurt!  What a fun class...and we will definitely have this one back again so we can create more garments.  We will likely put our own spin on it though...to make it an even more unique and one-of-a kind experience that Woodstock, IL is so used to offering.  See you soon!

An all-in-one on Main Street

Mixin Mingle, possibly one of Woodstock’s more intriguing new business, has arrived. The best way to describe it is by breaking it down to the core and discovering its essence. It all started with a woman and a room.

That woman is Naté Grindeland, owner and operator, and the room is Mixin Mingle. Back in college, Grindeland was part of a study group required to meet weekly. Unfortunately, the group did not have a quiet, personal place to gather, so members typically found themselves huddled in some chaotic local business. Her struggle to find a room to accommodate the group progressed into what is now Mixin Mingle. Grindeland created an area where people can rent out the space they need.

Although the initial idea was narrow, what Grindeland turned it into is much broader. She wanted “a fun place for people to gather with friends and learn something new.” Grindeland began going to various expos, searching online and even scouting the local farmers market to find instructors to teach the members something they don’t know but maybe have wanted to learn. She hunts for the most trendy topics to present, including using the newspaper as a source.

Grindeland is using her business to introduce the community to activities out of the ordinary, she said. These classes are for people with an open, adventurous mind.

Mixin Mingle offers nearly 30 classes each month, including everything from hoop dancing, Zumba instruction and body rolling to Poetry Slam, art journaling and drumming lessons.

“There is something for everyone,” said Grindeland, “I wanted to bring the best of everything all into one spot.”

Jill Cataldo, said to be the queen of coupons, also teaches a Super Couponing class each month, bringing in more than 100 students ready to learn the tricks of the trade. The turnout has been so strong that Grindeland even turned people away because there was not enough room.

Along with the fantastic turnout for Cataldo’s class, Grindeland said the reception toward the rest of the classes has been great as well. The average class size is 10 people, and the number is continuing to grow.

Mixin Mingle also accommodates small and large personal and business gatherings such as birthdays, baby showers, graduation parties and a meeting place for a lost study group.

Like any good business owner, Grindeland is constantly planning for the future. In her mind, the more variety and sheer number of classes she can host at Mixin Mingle, the better. She said the next series of classes she would like to bring in are seminars for business on how to effectively use technology such as the iPad and social networking sites to generate a more efficient and profitable company. Grindeland even hopes to obtain her food license, allowing her to hold culinary events.

Can’t find a babysitter on yoga night? Mixin Mingle has that covered too. Supervised childcare services are included in the price of the class. The children are occupied by television and toys.
